If you face criminal charges in Grant County, Indiana, it can be overwhelming to find the best criminal defense attorney for your case. When choosing a lawyer, it is important to consider the attorney’s experience and familiarity with the local rules. Grant County has established many local rules that set out procedures for how criminal cases will filed.

When arrested for a misdemeanor offense, with no other criminal cases pending and not on probation, generally your case will be filed in either Gas City City Court or Marion City Court. If arrested for a Level 5 or Level 6 felony relating to a controlled substance your case will be filed in Grant County Circuit Court. Level 6 felony domestic battery, strangulation, and neglect of a dependent charges will be filed in Grant County Superior Court 2. Many other Level 6 felonies, including Operating While Intoxicated – OWI / DUI offenses, and traffic offenses will be filed in Grant County Superior Court 3.

Grant County has also created a detailed bond schedule that sets presumptive bond amounts for most felony charges. The bond schedule also provides that individuals residing outside of Grant County or outside the state of Indiana will be issued a higher bond. An experienced defense attorney can file a motion requesting the Court to lower the bond amount that is originally set, allowing you to get back to work and your family.
